Dirt Bikes for Kiddddddsss!!!!

Looking for a kids dirt bike, Are you!?
Good it is about time! They need to start young. It will be a sport the whole family can enjoy!
First comes first never start off with a bigger dirt bike, just trying to save money because the kids will grow into it. Children most of the time will not feel comfortable when they can not touch the ground. A bigger dirt bike will probably be too powerful for them. Defiantly start off with a smaller one and even when they are bigger they can still ride it. It is better for the child to be to big for the bike then the bike be to big for them.

Also a big thing for children is the weight of the bike. Make sure the child is able to hold up the bike while he/she gets on an off. If it is too heavy there will be an issue. Also (A BIG  THING) make sure when the bike is on its side, the child can pick it up off the ground. This could happen if they fall and you want to make sure they can get back up!

Finally try to look for a used bike from a private owner, these are usually cheaper, and since your child will grow out of the bike, it won't be a big hole in your pocket as buying a brand new bike would be. And always take the child with you to see if he/she thinks its comfortable or a good match because there the ones that are going to be riding it.

2 Stroke Vs. 4 Stroke

2 Stroke OR 4 Stroke

Everyone knows what I am talking about. The Big debate on which is "better". The two stroke and four stroke are different engines and each has there advantages and disadvantages.
So here is some information about the two:
2 Stroke Advantages:
  • The engine of a two stoke produces twice the amount of power as a four stroke engine of the same size would. This is because the spark plug fires once every revolution of the crankshaft.
  • Much simpler than 4 strokes, have less parts, are are lighter.
4 Stroke Advantages:
  • Use less fuel than 2 strokes
  • engines pollute less
  • genuinely last longer than 2 strokes
2 Stroke Disadvantages:
  • Usually wear out faster than 4 strokes
  • Use more fuel than 4 strokes
  • you have to measure and mix two stroke engine oil with your fuel
4 Stroke Disadvantages:
  • Half as powerful as the 2 stroke
  • More parts, more can go wrong
  • Can be more complicated to work on if something goes wrong
There's just a little bit about each.

When buying a bike

Hey! I know some of you are looking to buy your first bike, or looking into buying a bigger bike. Most people start off with used bikes when looking. So here are a few things to think about and look for before buying a used bike.

It is always great when looking for a bike. THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS. My problem is that I want all of them. As I stated in one of my early posts is that my TTR is a used bike. She is absolutely beautiful. So lets start with these tips.
1) When looking for a bike come up with a price in your head that you are not willing to spend over . This will help you only look at the bikes you can afford.
2) Look at lots of bikes, the first one you see COULD be the perfect bike, but also do not just settle, give yourself options.
3)Try to go to a private seller because these bikes are usually a lot cheaper than buying from a dealer.
4) If the price is too good to be true something is usually wrong with the bike, keep looking. Or it could be stolen! Always check to see if registration and serial numbers have been removed. If so DO NOT BUY!!!
5) When going to look at the bike look the bike all over before buying, even bring a mechanic to make sure everything is all set in place and the bike does not have some horrible secret issue that can not be found out.
6) Make sure no fluids are leaking from the bike
7) Do not be afraid to ask questions
8) Let the seller tell you what he/she has to say about the bike
9) If the seller is ify about letting you test drive the bike (thinking you are going to steel it, yes that happens) give him/her something in collateral while you test drive it like you keys or licence.
10) Once the deal is made ask the seller about extra parts, manuals, receipts, and a key to the bike. If only has one key make sure you go down to the store and get another.

Winter Riders

For my winter riders out there I am very jealous of you. I do not have the time or patience to ride in the winter, but some of you do or want to. I am also way to busy in the winter months to even try this. Here are some tips that i found about about winter riding and the tires.
Spiked tires will be your savior from slipping and sliding on the ice.
One can buy these tires from a dirt bike specialty store even though they are pricey they are so worth it. These tires are a lot safer and can prevent many injures that could be caused by falling on ice do to slick tires. One can also make these tires at home. It is a little tricky, but can save money in the end. Go to hardware store and get a bunch of hex-head metal screws and try to make sure that they are longer than half an inch. You could also look for racing screws, but this would once again be more expensive. You then screw each of these screws into your tires making sure they are long enough so they do not fall out but short enough so they do not pop the inner tube of the tire. Try to use brand new tires if you can. Then you have yourself a pair of winter tires! Have Fun!

Winter's Here!

Sad to say the winter is here. I do not ride in the winter so at the end of last weekend I had to winterize my bike. It is always one of the saddest days of the year, because it means I will not be able to ride until the spring. Oh well, lets get to the steps on how to properly winterize a dirt bike.

Steps:
1) Make sure the bike is properly power washed and cleaned before storing. This gets all the mud, dirt and debris off. If this is left on the bike it can cause the bike to rust or the dirt, mud can harden in places that could cause damage to the bike. (Most people clean their bike every time after they ride to prevent this issue)
2) Let bike run in the driveway until all gas runs out and it clicks off, (REMEMBER THE RESERVE).
3) Make sure all the fluids are drained from the carborater. To do this unplug the hose from the carb and empty into an old can that can be thrown away.
4) Make sure gas lever is off and you may want to rinse down the bike for any remaining residue.
5) Keep bike in warm area away from ice, snow, rain

-Remember in the spring your bike is not going to turn over and turn on because there is no gas, and it will need an oil change. It is not broken!

Last Weekend Riding for the Year!

Hope everyone had a marvelous holiday! I know I did!
Real Tree Camo..and a little riding. My family is so into it.
So we got breakfast Thanksgiving morning and then we were off. All of us going out to the pits. Its great that it is not only my family that does this, but many people in the surrounding area because for most people it is there last ride of the season. It is so much fun. We go off on our own ways but all meet up on top of the hill at a nice warm fire. As I was at the top warming up by the fire I was watching these guys. They were jumping and flipping off the sand dunes. It was crazy, I wish I got a video so you guys could see! It is a whole different world when you live to ride. You live by danger, but that is what keeps you going, as most of the older riders would say to me. That is just a little bit about my vacation hope yours was just as fun!

Who's Your Brand? Kawasaki!

Who's Your Brand?

Kawasaki Addition

Kawasaki, or sometimes known as the "Team Green" is a Japanese manufacturer. This company creates motorcycles, street bikes, sports bikes, off road bikes, and ATV's. These bikes can be used as competition bikes and also off road trail bikes. Two examples of the motocross racing series bikes are, the KX450F and the KX250F. The KX250F is known to have the most wins in the quarter-liter class. The KX250F is the second in the world to have a hole-shot helper. This bike works especially well when given a slick start like off the concrete. The revised transmition combined with new fork grooves enhance smooth and easier shifting for the rider. The KX450F was a clear winner according to the 2013 450 Motocross Shootout. This bike has Kayaba Pneumatic forks, a stronger swingarm, and new ECU settings. These are only a little information about two of the most popular bikes.

Here are some more pictures of these beautiful Kawasaki's:

Who's your brand? Yamaha

Who's your brand?
Yamaha Addition

I own a Yamaha myself so I am a little bias towards them. I LOVE MY YAMAHA!! I have a ttr 125 le, 4 stroke trail bike. I love her to death. From the loudness of her engine to the way she rides. Perfect bike. But is Yamaha for you?

Yamaha produces everything from motorcycles and dirt bikes to boats. Yamaha is a very large company, but very good at what they do. They are not known as the fastest dirt bikes, but they are known as the most comfortable on the trails. (So if you do a lot of trail riding maybe Yamaha is for you!)

An older bike...but one of my favorites. Yamaha knows what they are doing every where from learners bikes to experienced. TTRs are common learning bikes the 80cc and 90cc are semi automatic-transmission, 50cc are fully automatic transmission, and the 125cc is a manual transmission. TTRs can go up to 450cc. (If you are looking to learn try a TTR, you won't regret it!)

The new YZ-450F 2014 is absolutely amazing. More power for more improvement. New intake/ exhaust, new intake camshaft, new crankcase breather, new cylinder head with straight port, new piston, and new wrap around exhaust. To learn more check out the video on this link!!

Who's your brand? KTM

 KTM addition

Is KTM your brand?
KTM is primary a dirt bike carrier. They originate from Austria. They have bikes from trail bikes to bikes that are used in motocross and supercross series all over the world. They sell a bike for everyone. There bikes are constantly improving as they change from year to year. 125s-450s they will remodel the whole thing. Many companies have discontinued making two-stoke bikes because "they are dying out in the racing world". KTM has continued making 2-stokes and improving them (As the first video shows).

Because they keep the 2-stoke, KTM has been one of the worlds top sellers for 2-stoke dirt bikes. KTM has been looking into DFI, which is direct fuel injection. It injects fuel at high power (1,500 psi) into the combustion chamber after piston has closed the exhaust port. This makes the bike more "green" and does not allow any unburnt fuel from leaking into the atmosphere. Learn more about the KTM by checking out the next video!
If you are a racer and are looking for a fast bike with lots of power maybe a KTM is for you!?

Forearm Pump

Arm pump or Forearm pump, all you riders have had it or heard about it. It SUCKS!!! Let me tell you. As we all know it happens to everyone regardless of age, sex, or race. I used to get severe cases of it when i was younger. Always trying to "rub it out" that never worked though.

Some tricks: strengthen the muscles in your arms, ride more, make sure you are wearing the correct gear (THAT FITS!), and stretch.

Strengthen: One could squeeze a stress ball. This tightens and looses the muscles in the forearm and starts to build up strength the longer one does this exercise. One can also hold light weights (3-5pds) in front of him/her and extend their wrists multiple times. This exercise strengthens the muscles in the wrist in the forearm and the wrist and it is a simulation of twisting the throttle.
Ride more: Isn't that the cure to all of our problems anyways!? I know it is for mine.
Correct gear: Make sure your gear fits properly. One does not want to get gloves or pants that are to tight. With out constant blood flow it can cut off circulation. With proper blood circulation it should reduce the amount of arm pump.
Stretch: One can flex and extend wrist multiple times before riding. This will loosen up the muscles.

-Hope this helps!

Racing

Racing. Made for some difficult for others. I used to race and as long as I kept my helmet on I was one of the guys. It was such a good feeling. They rode just as hard, and they did not take it easy on me. They didn't know.
I won one race, it was completely amazing. I got off my bike and took my helmet off and then the boys were in shock. Some little kid in the crowd was telling his older brother "Matt you just got beat by a girl"...It was a great feeling. Ill never forget that day. But as time went on the races got harder and harder. I was not in them to win either, I was in them for pure enjoyment.
As i said the races got harder. More obstacles were put in. Jumps, rivets, bumps, all to mess us up. There was one race that I will never forget. All i could hear where the engines in front, behind, and next to me. We went around the track, dust and dirt hitting my goggles, and I am probably covered in mud. We all got to the jump, we were soaring high over it. The best feeling, flying free through the air. But then the landing, someone crashed. Everyone else began to panic. I fell into this trap, there was no way of getting around it. There were to many people down. When I came in contact with the ground i jumped off my bike. My body went one way and the ttr another. All i remember from that day was that moment, and then waking up in the hospital bed the next morning with a neck brace. But that didn't stop me, all I wanted to do is get back on the bike. I asked everyone what had happened and they would tell me over and over again, but i just sat there in pain and wondered why i couldn't remember. A month later I was back riding again. Nothing felt better then getting back on the bike, hearing the engine and just going full speed. I have not raced since that day because I still have a fear of that jump. One day i hope to conquer that. No matter how bad I will get injured if I am still capable of riding I will be riding.

How it all started.

I was eight years old, up at the lake house in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I used to hear my cousins rip up and down the street on their bikes. I would walk down to the sand pits with my uncles just to watch them. Dirt flying everywhere. Every brand of bike you could imagine; KTM, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda. It was unimaginable. The boys were flying and flipping through the air as they hit the jumps. All I wanted to do was be on the back. I had to get one.
That day my cousin Robbie came up to me on his Kawasaki 250 and told me to hop on the back. (Remember that i am eight and a 250 is a pretty big bike for an eight year old) So my uncle picked me up and put me on the back of the bike. The bike started, he stepped down in 1st gear and we were off. I was holding on to Robbie for dear life. He took me around the track and then we came to a jump. All my uncles are screaming "Don't do that with her on the back!!", but he went for it anyways.
My heart was pounding, so i squeezed Robbie tighter. We were in the air, maybe for only 30 seconds, but it was the feeling of a lifetime. It felt so free. When we hit the ground we were back to reality. We rode back to the lake house. I was still in shock, and so ecstatic that he let me be on the back. Dirt biking has been my passion since that day. It is now my life.
From that day on I knew I had to get my own. Robbie came with me to get my first dirt bike. We got it from one of his friends for only $800. I was pumped. It/ She was in perfect condition. She is a Yamaha TTR 125 LE. I love that bike more then anything. All the way from the glossy blue color, to the sound of the 4-stroke engine in her. Absolutely beautiful. She is treated like royalty but only after given a beating.
Keep reading to learn more and more about my experiences and viewpoints. Dirt bike chicks are rare to find.
