Looking for a kids dirt bike, Are you!?
Good it is about time! They need to start young. It will be a sport the whole family can enjoy!
First comes first never start off with a bigger dirt bike, just trying to save money because the kids will grow into it. Children most of the time will not feel comfortable when they can not touch the ground. A bigger dirt bike will probably be too powerful for them. Defiantly start off with a smaller one and even when they are bigger they can still ride it. It is better for the child to be to big for the bike then the bike be to big for them.
Also a big thing for children is the weight of the bike. Make sure the child is able to hold up the bike while he/she gets on an off. If it is too heavy there will be an issue. Also (A BIG THING) make sure when the bike is on its side, the child can pick it up off the ground. This could happen if they fall and you want to make sure they can get back up!
Finally try to look for a used bike from a private owner, these are usually cheaper, and since your child will grow out of the bike, it won't be a big hole in your pocket as buying a brand new bike would be. And always take the child with you to see if he/she thinks its comfortable or a good match because there the ones that are going to be riding it.
