2 Stroke Vs. 4 Stroke

2 Stroke OR 4 Stroke

Everyone knows what I am talking about. The Big debate on which is "better". The two stroke and four stroke are different engines and each has there advantages and disadvantages.
So here is some information about the two:
2 Stroke Advantages:
  • The engine of a two stoke produces twice the amount of power as a four stroke engine of the same size would. This is because the spark plug fires once every revolution of the crankshaft.
  • Much simpler than 4 strokes, have less parts, are are lighter.
4 Stroke Advantages:
  • Use less fuel than 2 strokes
  • engines pollute less
  • genuinely last longer than 2 strokes
2 Stroke Disadvantages:
  • Usually wear out faster than 4 strokes
  • Use more fuel than 4 strokes
  • you have to measure and mix two stroke engine oil with your fuel
4 Stroke Disadvantages:
  • Half as powerful as the 2 stroke
  • More parts, more can go wrong
  • Can be more complicated to work on if something goes wrong
There's just a little bit about each.

When buying a bike

Hey! I know some of you are looking to buy your first bike, or looking into buying a bigger bike. Most people start off with used bikes when looking. So here are a few things to think about and look for before buying a used bike.

It is always great when looking for a bike. THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS. My problem is that I want all of them. As I stated in one of my early posts is that my TTR is a used bike. She is absolutely beautiful. So lets start with these tips.
1) When looking for a bike come up with a price in your head that you are not willing to spend over . This will help you only look at the bikes you can afford.
2) Look at lots of bikes, the first one you see COULD be the perfect bike, but also do not just settle, give yourself options.
3)Try to go to a private seller because these bikes are usually a lot cheaper than buying from a dealer.
4) If the price is too good to be true something is usually wrong with the bike, keep looking. Or it could be stolen! Always check to see if registration and serial numbers have been removed. If so DO NOT BUY!!!
5) When going to look at the bike look the bike all over before buying, even bring a mechanic to make sure everything is all set in place and the bike does not have some horrible secret issue that can not be found out.
6) Make sure no fluids are leaking from the bike
7) Do not be afraid to ask questions
8) Let the seller tell you what he/she has to say about the bike
9) If the seller is ify about letting you test drive the bike (thinking you are going to steel it, yes that happens) give him/her something in collateral while you test drive it like you keys or licence.
10) Once the deal is made ask the seller about extra parts, manuals, receipts, and a key to the bike. If only has one key make sure you go down to the store and get another.

Winter Riders

For my winter riders out there I am very jealous of you. I do not have the time or patience to ride in the winter, but some of you do or want to. I am also way to busy in the winter months to even try this. Here are some tips that i found about about winter riding and the tires.
Spiked tires will be your savior from slipping and sliding on the ice.
One can buy these tires from a dirt bike specialty store even though they are pricey they are so worth it. These tires are a lot safer and can prevent many injures that could be caused by falling on ice do to slick tires. One can also make these tires at home. It is a little tricky, but can save money in the end. Go to hardware store and get a bunch of hex-head metal screws and try to make sure that they are longer than half an inch. You could also look for racing screws, but this would once again be more expensive. You then screw each of these screws into your tires making sure they are long enough so they do not fall out but short enough so they do not pop the inner tube of the tire. Try to use brand new tires if you can. Then you have yourself a pair of winter tires! Have Fun!

Winter's Here!

Sad to say the winter is here. I do not ride in the winter so at the end of last weekend I had to winterize my bike. It is always one of the saddest days of the year, because it means I will not be able to ride until the spring. Oh well, lets get to the steps on how to properly winterize a dirt bike.

Steps:
1) Make sure the bike is properly power washed and cleaned before storing. This gets all the mud, dirt and debris off. If this is left on the bike it can cause the bike to rust or the dirt, mud can harden in places that could cause damage to the bike. (Most people clean their bike every time after they ride to prevent this issue)
2) Let bike run in the driveway until all gas runs out and it clicks off, (REMEMBER THE RESERVE).
3) Make sure all the fluids are drained from the carborater. To do this unplug the hose from the carb and empty into an old can that can be thrown away.
4) Make sure gas lever is off and you may want to rinse down the bike for any remaining residue.
5) Keep bike in warm area away from ice, snow, rain

-Remember in the spring your bike is not going to turn over and turn on because there is no gas, and it will need an oil change. It is not broken!

Last Weekend Riding for the Year!

Hope everyone had a marvelous holiday! I know I did!
Real Tree Camo..and a little riding. My family is so into it.
So we got breakfast Thanksgiving morning and then we were off. All of us going out to the pits. Its great that it is not only my family that does this, but many people in the surrounding area because for most people it is there last ride of the season. It is so much fun. We go off on our own ways but all meet up on top of the hill at a nice warm fire. As I was at the top warming up by the fire I was watching these guys. They were jumping and flipping off the sand dunes. It was crazy, I wish I got a video so you guys could see! It is a whole different world when you live to ride. You live by danger, but that is what keeps you going, as most of the older riders would say to me. That is just a little bit about my vacation hope yours was just as fun!
